David Rubinoff, the Great Violinist

What do these 2 Syroco corkscrews have to do with David Rubinoff, the Great Violinist? Rubinoff presented them to Dorothy DeGroat, a Broadway seamstress, who sewed costumes for many famous people. A De Groat family member later wrote on the base, in remembrance - "FROM RUBINOFF THE GREAT VIOLINIST".
David Rubinoff and his Magic Violin dazzled audiences across the country, playing in his own orchestra and with Eddie Cantor in theaters and on the radio in the 30s and 40s.

Photographer and US Naval Aviator Bob Alexander writes:
"I am a Professional Photographer, (50 years), and your site reminded me of what I consider to be an interesting story for you.
"Rubinoff, the great Violinist, came to my hometown to play a concert, and, as I always did when celebrities came to town, I invited him to my studio for a Portrait Sitting. He came, and we had a big time.
"I had just finished a seminar by Max Munn Autry, the head still Photographer of 20th Century Fox. Autry made all the great B&W glamour photos of the movie stars, with the dramatic use of highlights and shadows.
"I really applied my new knowledge and made a really Fine Portrait of Rubinoff. He ordered 10,000 copies and called me the "Stradivarius of Photographers". The Portrait went on to win honors and served to give me much pleasure and memories. Unfortunately, due to a fire and the passage of time, I no longer have a copy to send you, but it still is etched in my mind."
Robert Alexander is a Professional Photographer, specializing in the "Hollywood Style of Photography", Military Reunions, Digital Restorations, and Oil Paintings. He is also a Naval Aviator from the Korean War era, flying Corsairs, Bearcats, and Spads (AD's) off of many Aircraft Carriers, plus land, of course. He excels in the production of priceless Reunion Group Photos

7/03. and there's more...!
"Many of your (website viewers) have e-mailed and sent me photos. Unfortunately, none were copies of mine.
"Very recently, a really nice person, Marilyn M., responded by sending me an print of a very similar pose, made long ago.
"As one of my specialties is Digital Restoration, I enhanced it to look as much as possible to mine. It is not quite the same, but similar.
"I am attaching the print and want you and your viewers to know how much I appreciate your kindness. The world is not the nice place that it once was "back then", and it is reassuring to find that there are still caring people like all of you."
