CARING FOR YOUR LAGUIOLE CUTLERY
Forge de Laguiole, Chateau Laguiole, Laguiole Cutlery

CLEANING YOUR LAGUIOLE CUTLERY
Laguiole Cutlery, as with all fine cutlery, should be washed by hand in mild, soapy water and, immediately, thoroughly dried.
- DO NOT let dirty cutlery sit overnight;
- DO NOT let your cutlery soak in water;
- DO NOT wash cutlery in the dishwasher,
as any of the above may cause the finish to wear off, or the handles to warp or loosen.
The term "stainless steel" signifies that the cutlery will not rust in a humid atmosphere and that they will resist the various acids commonly found in daily use. It does not mean, however, that the steel is absolutely rustproof. Surface rust or stains may eventually form. These can usually be cleaned with a mild scouring powder. Do not use scotch brite or other abrasive material.

CARING FOR THE MECHANISM
Apply oil regularly to the moving joins of any folding knife to prevent premature wear. Use a multi-use oil or WD 40.
With blade folded, place an oil drop between the blade and the spring at the blade join. Open and close the blade a few times, then wipe off surplus oil.

STORING YOUR LAGUIOLE CUTLERY
Before storing your cutlery, wipe it carefully with a soft cloth to remove fingerprints, then lightly wipe the blades with a clean cloth dosed with a few drops of USP food-grade mineral oil, or Kurobara Camellia Oil (Japanese sword oil). Store your knives in a dry place, in a plastic sleeve, a knife block, or the box they came in. Take care that the blades do not rub against each other, as this will cause them to dull faster. Protect your cutlery from high heat as well as from cold - don't keep your cutlery over a refrigerator or an oven, for instance, or in a cold garage or storage area.

CARE OF HORN AND NATURAL WOOD HANDLES
Keep your cutlery clean and dry. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. If your knife handle becomes dry or/and dull, apply a little Kurobara Camellia Oil, Block Oil, or other food-grade oil with a soft cloth. This will add luster to any handle material and will help maintain the life of the cutlery.
In arid climates, all natural materials can dry out and shrink, become dull looking, or even crack. If you live in an area with extremely low humidity, store horn- or wood-handled cutlery in a case with a small glass of water.

SHARPENING YOUR LAGUIOLE KNIVES
We suggest a sharpening steel or ceramic sharpener to keep kitchen knives at their best.
After extensive use, all knives should be reground. Arrange for regrinding by someone experienced in the proper techniques. Your butcher may be able to suggest someone, or you could inquire at fine cutlery stores in your area.

Following these guidelines will allow your Laguiole cutlery to become even more beautiful, as they age and grow into family heirlooms.
