Lever: Double Lever Corkscrews

Wing Corkscrew

Lift the wings, insert the worm, and bring the wings all the way down to the neck of the bottle. Your hands easily move about 6 inches, the cork moves a tough 2. Heeley's A1 Double Lever, patented in 1888, is one of the most graceful corkscrews ever invented, and even subsequent incarnations often rank high in the beauty of form department.

A very effective corkscrew. Chrome and silver plated versions of it are now mass produced. Look for one with the helical wire worm.

Brass. Early 1900's. Italy.

A version of the English Magic Lever, patented in the 1920's. With this corkscrew, when inserting the screw into the cork, you have to turn the whole corkscrew, rather than just the handle.
