Assisted Pull Corkscrews |
| Considering the resilience of corks and the effectiveness of modern techniques for inserting them, it is not surprising that extracting a cork using a straight pull method can take a force of up to several hundred pounds. The corkscrews in this section are "straight pulls" with a twist - or, more accurately, with some addition to the shank that stops the downward movement of the worm and shifts the worm to be a gripping/holding device. Continued turning breaks the adhesion of cork to bottleneck, and, in certain cases, starts the upward movement of the cork. |
